solar energy

Solar energy is the energy contained in solar radiation. This type of renewable energy is generated through nuclear fusion reactions in the Sun. The radiation travels to Earth through electromagnetic radiation and can later be used. Solar energy can be used in the form of thermal energy or electrical energy. When it comes to thermal energy we get heat to heat a fluid. By installing solar panels and other systems, it can be used to obtain thermal energy or electricity generation.

How is solar energy produced?

Solar panels can be of various kinds depending on the mechanism chosen for the use of solar energy:

1. PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR ENERGY(Using photovoltaic solar panels)

Photovoltaic solar energy is an energy technology used to produce electricity.

Photovoltaic installations are comprised of photovoltaic solar panels. These panels are made up of solar cells that have the virtue of generating an electric current thanks to the Sun.

The current that comes out of a solar panel is direct current. The current converters allow us to transform it into alternating current.

The electric current generated by the photovoltaic modules can be used to supply the electricity in autonomous installations. It can also be used to supply it directly to the electricity grid.

2. SOLAR THERMAL ENERGY(Using solar thermal collectors)

Thermal solar energy can also be called solar thermal. This kind of energy is another very habitual and economic use form. Its operation is based on the use of solar radiation to heat water through solar collectors.

Solar collectors are designed to convert solar radiation into thermal energy. Its purpose is to heat a fluid that circulates inside.

Solar collectors increase the temperature of the fluid by increasing the internal energy of the fluid. In this way, it is easy to transfer the generated heat energy and use it where needed. The common use of this energy is to obtain domestic hot water or for residential solar heating.

Concentrating Solar Power
There are large-scale solar thermal power plants that use this technique to subject water to high temperatures. After that, it is converted into steam. This steam is used to power steam turbines and generate electricity.

3. PASSIVE SOLAR ENERGY(Without any external element )

Passive systems take advantage of solar radiation without the use of any intermediate device or apparatus. This technique is done through the proper location, design, and orientation of the buildings. It does not need panel installation. For example, the architectural design can absorb solar radiation to the greatest extent in winter and avoid excessive heat in summer.

Solar energy is a renewable energy source. The energy of the Sun is considered inexhaustible on a human scale. Therefore, it is an alternative to other types of non-renewable energy such as fossil fuels or nuclear energy.

Many other energy sources are derived from solar energy, such as:

Wind energy, which uses the force of the wind. The wind is generated when the Sun heats large volumes of air.
Fossil fuels, which come from organic decomposition. The organic decomposed were, to a large extent, plants that carried out photosynthesis.
Hydropower, which uses the potential energy of water. If solar radiation would not be possible the water cycle.
The energy from biomass, which once again is the fruit of the photosynthesis of plants.

The only exceptions are nuclear power, geothermal power, and tidal power. It can be used directly for energy purposes to produce heat or electricity with various types of systems.

From the energy point of view, it is an alternative energy to classic fossil fuels, it is considered a renewable energy. Solar energy can be exploited appropriately through different technologies and for different purposes, even if in technological versions that do not include energy storage.

Some examples of use of solar energy:

1. Installations with photovoltaic panels to generate electrical energy. These facilities are used in homes, mountain shelters etc.
2. Photovoltaic plants. They are large extensions of photovoltaic panels whose objective is to generate electricity to supply the electrical network.
3. Solar cars. It converts solar radiation into electricity to drive an electric motor.
4. Solar cookers. If systems to concentrate the radiation at one point to raise the temperature and be able to cook.
5. Heating systems. With solar thermal energy, a fluid can be heated that can be used in a heating circuit.
6. Pool heating.

Advantages and disadvantages of solar energy:

disadvantage

The investment cost per kilowatt obtained is high.
To provide very high efficiency.
The performance obtained depends on the solar schedule, the weather and the calendar. Therefore, it is difficult to know exactly what electric power we will get at a given moment. This shortcoming disappeared with the disappearance of other energy sources such as nuclear or fossil energy.
The energy required to make solar panels. The production of photovoltaic panels requires a lot of energy, and non-renewable energy sources such as coal are usually used.

advantage

Due to economies of scale and technological advances in future solar systems, its advocates support cost reduction and efficiency improvements in the near future.
Regarding the lack of such energy at night, they also pointed out that, in fact, during the day, that is, during the maximum solar energy production period, the peak power consumption is reached.
It is a renewable energy source. In other words, it is inexhaustible.
It is a pollution-free energy source. It does not produce greenhouse gases, so it will not exacerbate the climate change problem.
